How It's Made: Sheep to Shawl with White Barn Sheep & Wool

Raising them right. Good nutrition makes great fleece.

The art of shearing.

"Skirting " the fleece. Removing unusable felted or very dirty parts, usually the belly wool.

Washing the fleece. Removing the grease (lanolin), dirt, and vegetable matter.

Combing the fleece. Straightening the fibers making them ready for spinning.

The art of spinning.

Pokeberry dye bath. We hand dye with both commercial and natural dyes in small batches.

Marigold dye bath.

Finished skeins out to dry.
