Hudson Valley Brassroots Festival
The second Hudson Valley Brassroots Festival of brass band music will take place on July 27, 2019 at Seed Song Farm in Kingston, NY. The festival will feature music from of eight brass bands from up and down the East Coast whose influences range from New Orleans second line to brasspunk to activist anthems. They will play musical styles ranging from Eastern Europe to North America to Latin America. Create Your Own Chocolate Bar Workshop
With top 10 US Master Chocolatier Oliver Kita. $38 per workshop in the Rhinebeck studio. Each attendee has the opportunity to observe how chocolate is tempered (manipulated), to taste chocolate, and to add “inclusions,” otherwise known as toppings or add-ons, such as nuts, cacao nibs, toffee, peppermint, or dried fruits onto their bars. Each person gets to make bars and to take them home. For children, the toppings can include nostalgic favorites too—M&M’s, sprinkles, marshmallows, frosted cereals, etc. The session lasts about 40 minutes and requires one hour of time to attend from arrival to clean-up. The Art of Thinking: Awakening Your Genius Through the Science of Mindfulness
The Art of Thinking presents advanced teachings on the nature of clear, effective thought, based upon the Buddhist mindfulness tradition and Indo-Tibetan cognitive studies, utilizing chapters from the Foundations of Buddhist Practice by the Dalai Lama and Thubten Chodron. Within the context of the emerging Third Wave Mindfulness movement, in which the four foundations of mindful awareness provide context, we will explore the art of thinking in depth, examining the insights on gaining accurate, non-deceptive knowledge. Participants will walk away with knowledge of the Maha-satipatthana Sutta (Great Discourse on the Foci of Mindfulness), the four focuses of mindful awareness, and specific teachings on the nature of memory and mind. This retreat will emphasize dialogue and reflection, and application of the Buddhist Three-Fold Analysis will be practiced along with guided meditation. The Secret City Art Revival “Back to the Garden”

Native American Crafts Demonstrations
Historic Huguenot Street is happy to announce the return of Native American crafts expert and museum consultant Barry Keegan for an evening demonstration of traditional flint knapping, fire making, basket weaving, canoe hollowing, and more at the site’s replica Esopus Munsee wigwam, which was constructed by Keegan in 2017. Keegan is the former Supervisor of Native American Programs at the New York State Historical Association and Farmer’s Museum in Cooperstown, NY. He has constructed over 80 wigwams and longhouses for museums, nature centers, and educational institutions, and regularly demonstrates early technologies for these organizations, as well as others such as the History Channel. The Hudson Valley Jazz Festival
The Hudson Valley Jazz Festival begins its 10th season. The Dutchess County Fair
