For over four decades, Catskill Art Supply (formerly Catskill Art & Office Supply) has been serving the Hudson Valley creative world with, as founder and owner Paul Solis-Cohen puts it, “everything imaginable in the way of art.” And with a spacious new Kingston Plaza location, he and his team are relishing the opportunity to provide even more. “It’s so nice,” Paul says. “Big, new, fresh, clean, bright, and cheery, with wide aisles and low displays so you get a better line of sight. Easy, free parking—no more putting a quarter in the meter to come in and make a 10-cent copy.”
Ever since he first opened the shop in Woodstock, Paul has been listening to artists; if there’s one thing he’s learned, it’s that no two are alike. Whatever you’re into—airbrush, digital art, calligraphy, silkscreening, origami—you’ll find selection and quality here. “We’ve got all kinds of new products: paints, brushes, new lines of canvas, linen canvas... it’s a much more complete inventory, and we were pretty complete before,” he says. Office supplies may have been dropped from the name of the business, but you’ll still find them on the shelves, along with legal forms, topographical maps, and an easily accessible, high-quality copy shop. “It’s easier than ever to

get in and out of the copy shop, and we’ve got new equipment for large-format printing,” says Paul. “We do engineering copies now, or what used to be called blueprints—they’re no longer blue, but they’re still huge. Architects, designers, and engineers can email us a drawing, we’ll print it out and deliver it to their office.” Catskill Art will also take care of any framing needs.
According to Paul, “Our framing business has about doubled; we have four framers working in a big intake area.” Too busy to come in? Shop the vast selection of products online. Customers located in Ulster and Dutchess counties get free next-day delivery on orders over $35. “You’ll still get your customer rewards and benefits, but you can stay in your studio and have us bring supplies to your door,” says Paul. (If that studio should need an easel, lighting, storage, or other furnishings, Catskill Art’s got you covered there, too.) Best of all, says Paul, is the vibe. “Erin (Keating) and I were just talking about it; she’s been managing the business for over ten years now, and we’ve been having fun all along, but the new setup is just so refreshing,” he says. “My staff are artists themselves, experts, and having everybody on one floor

where we can operate as a team—it’s a blast. The staff is happy and you feel it the minute you walk in. Communication is easier and that makes handling any situation smoother.”
Along with offering everything a creator of any age could want, Catskill Art Supply also stocks stationery, unique gifts and tools (surely someone you love needs a solar-powered rainbow maker), as well as the bags and wraps to give them in, and lovely blank cards. Stop in at the new Kingston Plaza location and say hello. “We’ve always been taking the retail experience to the next level,” says Paul. “But having all this room for the vision is cloud nine. We’re having so much fun.”
