The 2017 season of Powerhouse Theater is excited to showcase an array of new works by Tony® winners Lisa Kron and Duncan Sheik; “How I Met Your Mother” star and Powerhouse regular Josh Radnor; 2-time Pulitzer Prize for Drama recipient, Lynn Nottage; and Tony® winning directors Sam Gold and Michael Mayer, among many industry leaders. Powerhouse Theater, a collaboration between Vassar College and New York Stage and Film, now entering its 33rd season, is dedicated to both emerging and established artists in the development and production of new works for theater and film. Since the first Powerhouse Theater season in 1985, New York Stage and Film and Vassar have served more than 2,000 artists and over 200,000 audience members through the development and production of artistically exceptional and affordably priced performances. Vassar & New York Stage and Film’s Powerhouse collaboration continues to be the launching pad for some of the most groundbreaking new works for the American theater with countless productions in New York City, regionally and internationally. "We are thrilled to partner with Vassar to produce our 33rd Powerhouse summer season of new works-in-progress,” said Johanna Pfaelzer, Artistic Director of New York Stage and Film. “The last several years at Powerhouse have been especially fertile ground for the development of some of the most exciting new works for the American theater." Some of these works include Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton and Stephen Karam’s The Humans—the reigning Tony® winners for Best Musical and Best Play, respectively.
