BRICK BUILDING CONTEST!
Challenge: To support the appreciation of the evolution of technology in America, Museum Village & B4K are teaming up to set forth a Lego brick construction contest!
Categories: Technological Machine Invention (past, present or future). Participants must bring their own Lego Bricks to use. (No kits allowed.) Outside help from others during the competition is not permitted.
Ages: Two groups: 6-8 & 9-11 (individuals or teams of two)
Date: Saturday January 17th (contestants must pre-register at Buy Tickets by Mon Jan 12). In the event of snow, the alternative date is January 31st
Time: 1pm-4pm, includes orientation/rules, 1.5 hours build time, 45 min judging period, award ceremony. Light refreshments will be served. Arrive a few minutes early to take advantage of the door prize raffle.
Location: Museum Village, 1010 Rt. 17M in Monroe, NY (Snack Bar)
Judges: Michael Sosler, Director Museum Village, Local politician, Local chamber member, Local high school principle, teacher or OCCC professor, Local high school student wanting to major in engineering field
Scoring: Points awarded for 1) relevance 2) creativity 3) originality 4) construction detail 5) use of technology 6) application of engineering principles
Prize: One grand prize winner and one runner up per age group. Grand prize is a LEGO Technic building set. 6-8 age category valued at $150, 9-11 age category valued at $200. Runner up gets a free week of Bricks camp. Winners will also be posted in the local paper and social media venues. Photos will be taken.
Fees: $10 to register, $5 for spectators (portion of proceeds go to Museum Village charity)
Contest is up to 20 entries per category, and is on a first-come first-serve basis. We’ll see you at the challenge!
